What’s holding you back?
Cost can be a factor. The truth is you can complete your book project at no cost if you are willing to learn and do the work. There is a lot of information available and free or low cost tools that you can use.
Time. It took me years to write my first book because I was working on it part time and there were no tools or resources available at that time. I had to figure a lot of things out and then try to find the time to do the writing.
Today, there are so many resources available to an author that a book can be written ad published almost effortlessly and if you have a strong budget you can get it done without having to do a lot of the work yourself. Your choice.
Self doubt. Doubt will be your constant companion on your journey. It’s natural and not uncommon. However, If you can learn to control it and overcome it you will achieve your goal and once you reach that point you will feast on the accomplishment and never suffer the limitations of doubt again.

Having a publisher behind you is always a good thing!
Most book stores don’t sell the books of self-published authors. Furthermore, while the web is full of books on how to publish your books, it still takes work to do it right and to make it count. The work itself can be done by anyone with the right kind of knowledge.
But getting that knowledge takes time. There are hordes of authors out there who publish their own books. Some make the headlines; others never make a sale. That is because people cannot be experts in all things.

What do I have to lose?
I have had lengthy conversations about this with other authors and we all seem to remember those first fateful steps into our book writing adventures. It was the clenched jaw, tight acidic stomach, and a nervous lingering fear of failure that kept us from starting.
However, we did start … all of us… and every single one that stayed the course got our books written and projects completed and we bask in the feelings of pride and accomplishment feedback. It’s a glorious feeling!
And, to my knowledge, nobody that gave in to the fear and backed away from the challenge ever completed their project and are left with that empty feeling that comes with failure.
